Preserve Habitat and Restore the Aquifer

Protecting and Restoring the Treasure Coast Greenway will make it possible to avoid a negative and create a positive when it comes to water in the Treasure Coast Region.

Taking the land out of development forever will keep it from being further drained which will avoid lowering the ground water table. Additionally, it will also keep increased runoff caused by impermeable surfaces and storm water drainage systems - with all of their pollutants and silt - from being dumped into our waterways.

Restoring the connections between fragmented systems will undo damage caused by the agricultural drainage systems that have been put into place, bring back much of the natural water storage capabilities of the land, and restore much of the natural water flow.

Protecting, restoring, and connecting a variety of large, contiguous habitats will allow the animals and plants that are native to Florida to thrive in their natural settings.
